Can you see what it says in your Event Viewer about the error
Need to know the error. Here is an example only about a fix and for XP with an error of Code 31 as an example. For Vista there is numerous fixes depending on the error that is shown

There's no error message that comes up. I insert a disk into the drive, close the drawer, the light on the DVD Rom flashes a couple of times then nothing happens. If I click Start, Computer and then on the drive, it doesn't run the CD/DVD. As far as I'm aware, it's hooked up inside correctly to the motherboard etc. The PC says it's a SEMWUNG DVD-ROM $SD-616E$ATA instead of a Samsung. If I put the DVD Rom in my old PC it works fine, just not in this one.

It would help tremendously to help you fix this issue if you would post the error message associated with this problem.

I have recently added a DVD Rom to my current PC which ran perfectly well in my old PC. It was working fine until something caused Vista to crash. Once the PC was up and running again, it installed a new device driver and changed my DVD Rom from a Samsung to a Semwung and now the DVD Rom won't work.
I have been told that it's possible that my PSU in my current PC isn't powerful enough to cope with a DVD writer *and* a DVD Rom. But I'm not sure that could be the problem as the PSU is the same spec as what's in my old PC and that had more devices attached to it than what I have in my current one. Both PCs run Vista.
Any ideas as to how I could get my DVD Rom working again? I have done the usual like checking the DVD Rom works in another PC and reinstalling the driver.
TIA
Netty
