Ask the friend for the password.

If this doesn't produce the correct code, you can always do a full (clean) reinstall of Windows (assuming the friend provided all the Windows / original restore disks etc (or assuming the restore partition is still in place on the Compaq drive if that was the method of restoring the system if needed) as you don't know what's been on that PC in terms of malicious software, viruses, malware, spyware and other junk. It's best to do the reinstall on 2nd-hand computers anyway.

If you start the restore/reinstall procedure then you won't need the password - but I suppose the system will eventually ask, you for one to be made up when the system boots for the first time - it will probably create a admin user account and ask you to put in (your own) password - make sure your brother records this so it is not forgotten.
