I see more and more laptops and desktops being advertised with Ubuntu preloaded in the newspapers, flyers and on TV here, especially net books for €199, something MS is frantically working on with 7. By the time 7 comes out, Ubuntu will be so good and so well known, they will miss the boat.
Or more likely when Windows 7 comes out and has a decent configuration for netbooks which will most likely have something faster than an Atom 1.6 in them by then, everyone will dump linux on netbooks and opt for a mainstream OS.
No, they will miss the boat because, as always, MS will push out 7 before it's ready and, like I wrote, by that time, Ubuntu will be the mainstream OS. General users have become a lot more savvy since Win 95.

So you are predicting that a Linux flavor will go from less than 1% market share to "mainstream" in the next year?
Hey, the man can almost read. Try two years.

You must be living in some tech forum/newsgroup dream world. Nobody uses Linux except for people who visit tech forums and people who visit tech forums are decidedly not mainstream.
Please reread my post and pay attention to the part where I wrote that Linux Ubuntu is now being pushed to the public that doesn't read tech. forums and get back to me.

As far as "no one uses Linux except ...", bull***. I know a lot of people who use Ubuntu and don't even know what a tech forum is, much less visit one. For example, I know a little old lady who is pushing 80 who has been using Ubuntu for two years now and hasn't had one single problem and is very happy with it. I also installed Ubuntu for a family of four, none of whom are tech savvy. The use it for email, surfing, printing, their cameras, scanning, music, videos and IM. There are also very happy with it. I could go on and on. Ubuntu is the new thing and when new things catch on, they catch on. When the car was introduced, it held less than 1% of the transportation market.

OK, thus spake "Alias" on December 23rd 2008. History will judge you...

Yep, time will tell who has fell and who's been left behind.

or at least the fake name you use.

How do we know your name is Charles? How do you know that "Alias" is a fake name?

Come on back in two years and tell us you were correct.

I'll let you do that.
