Man, I am getting sick and tired of having to fix this confounded OS.
I have two virtually identical PC's sitting next to each other.
Intel 875PBZ's same processor, ram, drives etc. 2 gigs, Radeon X1650
One is running XP Pro, the other is struggling with Vista Premium.
The vista machine now takes about 15 -20 times longer to load a (simple) web page over the xp machine.
Why? I haven't changed anything but I am certain it's something in Internet Explorer (again)
Surprise surprise....
The odd part is that Firefox won't work either, so I am certain that something in Vista is
bottlenecking the browser again. I had the same issue with Hotmail a few weeks ago.
And before it's suggested that I check my antivirus program, I already have, including
uninstalling it. And actually I would think the XP box would be slower since it's using
Kaspersky which questions every move the PC makes. I've turned off the firewall too,
basically browsing without a condom at the moment....
First off I think all hackers virus writers, malicious program and tracking cookie writers should all
be publicly hanged. That way we would not be forced to have endless security patches, etc...installed
that cause our PC's to stop working.
Is this a Vista issue? I can't tell..but I can't stand it anymore. The bad part is by tomorrow it will
probably be working well again. And that's bad because I will be sucked into believing that this
is a good OS again. It does whatever it wants...
Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these Web pages, including HijackThis.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus, whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure of.
