Thank you. The computer will be build and Vista 64 installed by the same
manufacturer, so there should be no problems with the computer/hardware
issues. I am concerned about everything else like software or printers.
Will HP laser printer work?

It depends on which model. I have a 10+ year old LaserJet 4 that works
fine. Drivers included on the Vista DVD.

If all of your hardware has 64 bit drivers, there is no reason to not go
64 bit at this point. More systems are coming with Vista 64
pre-installed. The main reason is that 64 bit is not limited to 3.2 GB of
RAM.

Neither is 32-bit Vista limited to 3.2GB. Here's the correct info:

All 32-bit versions of Windows (not just Vista) have a 4GB address
space. That's the theoretical upper limit beyond which you can not go.
But you can't use the entire 4GB of address space. Even though you
have a 4GB address space, you can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM.
That's because some of that space is used by hardware and not
available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but is
usually around 3.1GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address *space*, not the actual
RAM itself. The rest of the RAM goes unused because there is no
address space to map it too.

More RAM in Vista always gives better performance, because Vista actually
uses all RAM by caching everything it can.

Also not correct. Caching isn't the issue, but paging is, and more is *not*
always better. If the applictions you are running use more memory than you
have RAM, the rest is supplied by the page file, and that hurts performance

How much memory you need when running Visa, or any version of Windows,
depends on what apps you run, but almost everyone needs an amount of at
least 2GB for decent
performance. For some people, for example those who edit large photographic
images, more than 2GB--even much more--can be required for good
performance.

If you are currently using the page file significantly, more memory will
decrease or eliminate that usage, and improve your performance. If you are
not using the page file significantly, more memory will do nothing for you.

Unlike XP, where any RAM over around 1 GB sits unused and therefore
wasted. Vista will actually USE 8 GB of RAM to greatly increase
performance, XP can not.

Not correct. See the above.
