display setting changes itself

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

My display settings will frequently change itself from the highest resolution
to the lowest resolution without user adjustments. It is often impossible to
reset display settings afterward without a re-boot. Sometimes one user can
reset resolution but another cannot. Sometimes none can.

Not sure if this is a display card issue, OS problem or of it's being
triggered by an internet-based program that may be running in the background.
Even so, the problem often persists even after closing all webpages and
logging off Internet Explorer.

Running Vista Home Premium SP1 with GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 adapter on a
Dell Inspiron 531.
