Funny I have another PC and a ;aptop all running Vista. The SP1 installed fine on both of those computer with Macafee running and with all the same setups as my "good" computer - a Dell. At this stage I am not going to install the SP1. Since everything was working fine for me before all this started and I have had the scares of total system crash trying to get rebooted after seemingly being installed, I am going to go my merry way and hope that some future upgrade will load properly.

Thank you for the advise to try. At this stage I'm thinking that there is some Dell file that is doing something. Jerry

If it were me and I was in this situation, the machine's HD would be formatted, the O/S reinstalled and the SP installed, before any other software was installed, in an attempt the get the SP and Windows updates applied.

It is not a good security practice as a home user to blow off a Service Pack.

Windows XP installation again
... I was dumb my PC had XP on it I bought my wife a laptop she went back to ... college well she is running vista, I wanted to be the same wrong dumb stupid ... xp disk in the drive it does its formatting blah blah blah time to take out ... This not my first time ever to install a OS systemm on a PC done it many ...

This not my first time ever to install a OS systemm on a PC done it many ...
