Ethernet cable question.

I have a wireless router at home since I got high speed so have not paid much attention. When I do banking I go to the cable modem and plug in, but recently discovered cables are VERY cheap if you don't buy them at the box stores. Bought a 25' one for $6.00 to try, works great. So I was wondering how long can you go with these before the speed starts to degrade? They offer 100' ones cheap which would be enough for me to run a pickup to the other end of the house but thought I would ask before I order one.
