Windows XP was far more problematic on launch. If you go back over the
newsgroups at the end of 2001 and 2002 (or any other release) you'll see
exactly the same stuff, the only difference now is due to the blogosphere
things tend to get magnified.

In other words, what you were saying is that MS has not learned anything
from the experience and created even more?

You do know that only stupid repeat mistakes because they cannot prevent it
nor can solve it once for all.

Many people perceive themselves are not stupid and thus do not want to
repeat the same troubles all over again. What about you?

A friend of mine is ordering a new Dell PC with Windows XP installed
instead of Vista. He made this choice because he says Vista will be
replaced due to so many problems with it. Id there any truth to this? I am
considering a new PC and was planning to go with Vista, thinking it will
be around for several years. Now I am not sure what to do. I noticed
there was a discussion about this earlier, but it has been deleted.

Windows XP is the one going away, Windows Vista will be replaced when
Windows codenamed "7" is released in the next few years.

The problems with Windows Vista are mostly an illusion, driven by people
out to convert you to something else, Windows XP was far more problematic
on launch. If you go back over the newsgroups at the end of 2001 and 2002
(or any other release) you'll see exactly the same stuff, the only
difference now is due to the blogosphere things tend to get magnified.
