Re: quirky shutdown

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Step 1. Turn off computer.
Step 2a. Immediately avert face so that monitor screen(s) cannot be seen,
not even out of the corner of your eyes.
Step 2b. If you simply cannot keep eyes averted, recommend you turn off the
monitor as soon as you click Shutdown.
Step 2c. If you just can't avoid watching Shutdown, stop Shutting Down.
Step 2d. If 2c is not feasible or acceptable, have a co-worker, friend or
hired staff do it for you after you have left the building.

If none of the above work, then take the computer to your nearest worthy
charity and donate it. Then never, ever, buy or use another computer. Odds
are that the next one will probably have even worse habits, but, more
importantly, you are exhibiting symptoms of very serious mental issues
involving computers that need immediate, professional attention -- from a
psychiatrist, not from a technical computer newsgroup. Probably require
institutionalization.

Then again, you could try real trouble-shooting steps as described all over
the internet. The kind that start with a Clean Boot and progress from there.
Keywords are "Clean Boot" and Troubleshoot (Troubleshooting and T-shoot
should also be tried.) Not a soul in this small corner of the world is going
to walk you through that, step-by-step. You have to learn to do it yourself.

(OK, I lied. I did the first step for you..)

heh, this is more of a personal pet peeve, but when i shutdown vista, it
closes everything, including explorer(no start bar). it'll jump to the
shutdown screen(w/ the login background), saying "please wait", but then
i jumps back to the desktop, with just the wallpaper! THEN, it makes the
smooth blacking out transition to "shutting down", and shuts down. i
know it's not that big of a deal, but it drives me crazy every time i
see it! does anybody know a fix for this?

i've installed all the updates, and i'm not a windows novice.. but any
suggestion could help.
