How to stop Vista from turning my laptop on

Short of taking the battery out each time I power off -
How on earth do I do this? I've tried all the obvious stuff like disabling
wake on lan.
What brainiac at Microsoft though it was a good idea to have a laptop turn
it's self on anyway?
I understand the limitations of ACPI mean a "turn on" schedule cannot be set
for a date, just a time and so has to boot every day to check, - however I
want all times removed.
My Mac could do this reliably in 2001!
Any ideas?
