Network in the notification area

I have Vista Home premium, if that matters.
Right click the taskbar -> Properties -> Notification Area tab
On that tab is a series of checkboxes under "System Icons", one of which being "Network". Prior to installing SP1, I was able to access that setting w/o difficulty. Now, I don't know that SP1 is the culprit but what I'm experiencing is that checkbox is greyed out. In fact, it is the only checkbox that is greyed out; Clock, Power and Volume are all accessible. So I'm curious, why am I not allowed to check it and put the network icon back in my notification area? I'm set up as an administrator and I have UAC turned off. Is there some way I can reinstate the ability to un/check this setting? Is there another way I can get the network icon back in to my notification area?
thnx,
Christoph
