Is there a difference and if so what is it? I am confused. Needing a
little light on the subject.

Generally nothing major except for how your view and post. Forums are
web based and viewed with a browser. Newsgroups are technically NOT
part of the Internet having their own world wide network of linked
news servers which is called Usenet. Most people since they don't know
any better often lump in Newsgroups as part of the Internet, but
technically that is inaccurate.

OK - Now Adam is starting to blow his head up with EGO. Stand by.

Usenet predates the public Internet and was started by some college
kids to exchange text messages. Shortly after it became a popular
means to exchange and view porn and adult material of all kinds. That
is still by far the majority of traffic in newsgroups making up over
90% of the traffic according to most estimates.

Pump more EGO into Adam's *** crusted head. Watch the power dim on the street wher Adam is housed.

Even if you are reading this on some forum, it still is a newsgroup.
It's name is microsoft.public.windows.vista.general. Another
difference is when viewing on a web site (a forum) everybody is
accessing the SAME site that has a single URL to get there. If viewed
as a newsgroup you are looking at a "copy" of the post unless you
happen to be logged on to the SAME news server the original poster
posted to. Otherwise every post gets send around the world and appears
on thousands of different news servers, many controlled by some ISP or
some pay per use premium server.

More sewage is pumped into Adam's head. the EGO is getting BIGGER and BIGGER after each letter he types.

Posts expire at different rates again depending on what news server
you are accessing. So it is more pot luck how long any post stays on a
news server and also if the provider even decides to carry a
particular group.

Here comes the major *** that Adam talks about. Look how FULL of himself he really is. It's pathetic.

A popular myth is Microsoft somehow "controls" posts and posters here.
That is hog wash. Like any other provider they can only control what
is uploaded to or passing through THEIR news server. Since there are
thousands of other news servers none which have anything to do with
Microsoft accept be linked to their news server to exchange posts they
don't have. So you see anybody telling you otherwise you found a fool.

More Adam. More bull***. Keep typing you fool.

To avoid looking foolish yourself if you post to a forum do not make a
post that say something like bump which implies your post will bubble
to the top of the list if nobody replied to your original post. While
it might work in a forum it won't usually have any impact on people
viewing through a newsgroup. Forums also often lack threading ability
so while one poster in a thread might ask a question or give a answer
whatever he was replying to likely won't get linked as it normally is
(threaded) in a newsgroup again making the person look rather foolish.

Adam's head is about to explode. Clear the neighborhood becuase of the toxic fumes that may leak from Adam's head. Call Hazmat to clean up the mess.

Another myth is some clueless posters complain they have wasted time
reading what they didn't want to be bothered with. Again, stupidity on
their part. While in a forum you always see all posts by simply
clicking on them, with a news server it is a two step process. You
first get "new headers" this is just what appears on the subject/tile
line. YOU by clicking on head have decided to download the body of the
linked text.

Full of bull***, brought to you by Adam Albright.

Come on , now.
That was actually a good post by Albright.

He actually explained it quite well.
