I use Sleep (and Hibernation) all the time. They both work perfectly. SoI found the answer. It is not Vista. It is the BISO in my machine. A
Sleep in Vista Home Premium does work.
VERY useful command is
powercfg -a
It reports the sleep states supported on your machine. Mine reports
that S1 and S2 which are normal sleep modes are not available, not
supported by the firmware of my machine.
Therefore there is NO WAY to get them. I have the latest BIOS so stuck
there.
HOWEVER Hybrid sleep is available so I set the system for that and lo
and behold all is well.
I am not happy that the BIOS does not support S1 or S@ but I cannot do
anything about it. The only real problem here is a longer time to
restart and ONLY the power button will wake it.
The advantage is that the documents or other open files are saved to
disk so it is a more safe thing, no data loss.
