Just jumpng in to let you know that S3 indicates the ability of your computer to suspend to RAM. This as you probably know means that virtually all power is off in the computer except for a trickle of power to the RAM where all of your in-process operations are stored until your restart. Obviously if the power should go out you would loose all of your information in open but unsaved applications.

Hi
Right in my very first post i mention doing powercfg -a, and the resulting
sleep states reported back, i just didn't bother elaborating on everything it
reported, it does however say that hybrid sleep is available.
I am now thinking its "sleep" that is at fault, when i hit the sleep button
and the option is "sleep", both my monitors go blank but the fan in the back
of the computer is still spinning, and the power light stays on some half an
hour later, this doesn't sound like the low power state people are talking
about, it apperas to merely turn off the monitors.
powercfg -a reports
"Standby (S3) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep" as my available modes, what is (S3),
is this not a proper standby for some reason
.
