Re: Automatic updates changing screen resolution

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I'm REALLY tired of this. Every automatic update changes my resolution
to 800x600. Not only do I have to reset it but it changes all my
standard keep-open apps that are sized and positioned as I want them. So
I have to resize them all as well. Is ther ANY way to avoid this? I
think it's incredibly RUDE!

Thanks,

Me too! I don't know if automatic updates are doing it or what, but in
the past couple of weeks I've been getting this behavior about half the
time when i wake up the computer from dozing (i.e. full power to the
CPU, but the display has shut down). And it won't let me reset it. It
lets me tell it to set it to the native 1920x1200 resolution of the
monitor and video card, but when I say ok and it does the preview, it's
still 800x600. Extremely irritating! A reboot usually resolves it, but
often I'm in the middle of a long upload and cannot reboot. All I
wanted to do was check the status of the upload, and maybe do some more
work, which I can't. I found this and have tried it, but will have to
wait for my upload to finish before I know if it works on my desktop. I
had noticed the video driver seemed to think I had two screens. from:
'Dell notebook, Vista, and Screen Resolution | Ask Metafilter'

The actual culprit is TMM, Vista's process that looks for multiple
monitors and attempts to intelligently modify resolution. If you aren't
using multiple monitors, you can disable TMM: 1. right-click on
'computer' and select 'manage' 2. on the left pane, expand 'task
scheduler' then ' task scheduler library' then 'Microsoft' then
'Windows' then 'MobilePC' 3. select TMM in the center pane, then on the
right pane, choose 'disable' Now you should be able to close your
laptop, let it go to sleep and when it wakes up it will still be in your
preferred resolution (also, the screen won't go blank for a second right
after waking up)
