BUT HERE THE NEW O. S. GETS THE JOB DONE IN A BETTER,SAFER AND MORE
RELIABLE WAY

We're talking about third-party s/w here that was purchased, not about
internet apps, many of which are free and/or OS intrinsic.

Ex. CAD, CAM, photo/video editing tools, music editing/producing.

Also, the biggest security issue in Windows are/were items produced by MS
themselves...IE and Oulook/Express.

One doesn't set out to buy a brand new car, by checking for
reverse compatibility. As long as it runs on gas (or something
cheaper) you are generally happy, right? Making sure your old
seats, old headlights, and dash board from the other car will fit
in the new
car
would sound silly, and absurd.

That's a really bad analogy.

have anything better? :)

How about, an analogy isn't needed, just some sense.

I don't think most people would like having to re-purchase/replace s/w
to support a new OS if there is no need for an upgrade and it gets the
job done.
