Re: Frequent CRC errors

I've been getting frequent CRC errors when installing games on my PC, particularly games or programmes with large files. The PC is brand new and I initially thought that this must be a hardware issue. However, I sent my PC back to the manufacturer, they tested it thoroughly and found no problems at all with any of the hardware. This has led me to conclude that this must be a software problem, namely a problem with Vista. Has anyone heard of this happening on Vista? And does anyone know a solution?

p.s. All the games I've been trying to installing are on original, unscratched (and in some instances brand new) discs. I've also had CRC problems on the downloaded Crysis demo.

Specs:

Processor: AMD Quad core Phenom 9550 (4 x 2.2Ghz) 4MB
Memory: 2GB DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHz (2 x 1 GB 800)
Motherboard: ASUS SKT-AM2 M2R32-MVP S/L CROSSFIRE 2000MT/s
Hard Drive: 160 GB SATA HDD UDMA 300 7200 8MB
DVD: Samsung 16x DVD-ROM Black (IDE) Graphics: Point of View GeForce 8600 GTS
Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card
Running on Vista Ultimate 32 bit

If the CRC are also on files that have not come from your DVD drive (in other words eliminating the DVD drive as faulty) then have you run a full CHKDSK?
