Re: Search not working properly

Hello everyone,

I have recently discovered a very strange issue with the index search
in Vista. For some reason, which I cannot explain, tagged searching for
images are no longer working for me. They will simply not show up at
all in the search. If I add a tag to a word document, it will work
fine, however.

I have tried re-building my index several times, and items still refuse
to show up (the index building is complete btw). However, strangely
enough, if I'm in Windows Photo Gallery, tag searching works perfectly.

I have also tried playing around with several settings. This is that I
have enabled:
"In indexed locations, search filenames and contents. In non-indexed
locations, search file names only."
"Include subfolders when typing in the Search box."
"Find partial matches"
"Include system directories"
"Include compressed files (ZIP, CAB...)"

In the Indexing Options, I have the following options enabled:
"Index encrypted files"
"Treat similar words with diacritics as different words"

While doing some testing, it appears that it is only searching images
by name and not by tags.

I don't understand why this used to work, but now it does not work at
all. It's not like I changed any settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Mikee,

I have the exact same problem. The search bar in explorer does not
search my image tags. I know the images have tags, i know they are in an
indexed location, I have rebuilt the index and even tried the
encapsulating the search e.g. Tag: (Friends) but with no luck. It does
work ocasionally when i check the "also check non-indexed locations" but
i know for a fact that the pictures fodler is indexed and has been
rebuilt after the tags were added.

I have tons of photos and really want to start taggging them so i can
just type in search terms in explorer and have all related photos come
up rahter than my current system which relies on organising them in
fodlers. The image gallery search does work but it is not as universal
as the explorer bar search and so not as useful to me. Anyone with any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Si
