Can't Read Folder

I am running Windows Vista Business. I have a backup Disk L:\ which I can read except for one folder. I have a folder named "My Pictures" and all is well with that folder and all the other folders with one exception. When I double click or right click/Open on the folder, "My Docs Backup 2005," I get the message, "You need to format the disk in drive L: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" and I get the choices of "Format disk" or "cancel."

I don't want to format the disk (250GB) because I would lose all my document backups.

Any suggestions?
