Re: Read Only

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hello Wassim,

It depends on what level of 'security' you're after. In order then you
could:

1) Save the file in a read only state (check the Read only option in the
Save As... / Save button drop down arrow or in Windows Explorer right click
the file, select Properties and again check the Read only option). This
will mean that when a user makes changes they won't be able to save the file
in the same name, but there's also nothing to stop them changing its read
only status in Explorer.

2) Save the file as PDF or XPS in Visio 2007 under the File menu (you'll
need to download the free office add-in if you haven't already). This will
save the document in the respective format but again, not with any security
options. (This can still be opened and editted in applications like Adobe
Illustrator.)

3) Finally you could use Adobe Acrobat or Distiller, which produce a pdf
document. The resulting file's security settings then be set to
enable/disable options such as save, print, view etc.

Hopethat helps.

Best regards

John
