For sure you have choose a default setting for the margin of the text block.
To set a default behavior, for example a default color red for the text,
deselect all shapes and choose "Format=>Text"in the Visio Menubar. Select
"font tab", select red color and click OK. All further shape wil have red
color. You can do this to line, fill, font, ....
To return to default black just do the same in selecting black color.
So verify when nothing is selected that the margin of the text block is set
to top:0 bottom:0 left:0 right:0.

Greetings,
I have been using Visio for years, however, something has happened and
I
can't figure out how to undo it. Basically up until today when I added
a
text box and entered text, the text went horizontal as it was typed.
getwhen I add a text box and enter text, the text goes vertical. How do I
back to the old behavior?
TIA
