Are you in text edit mode? Press F2 to edit the text. (Usually you can
also double-click to edit the text.) Then select the characters you want to
change and make your formatting choices.

I would like to make some electrical engineering drawings, and I want to
use
subscripts to distinguish variables. I do not want to do all sub- or all
super- scripts as Visio is trying to make me do. Is there a way around
this?
