When you define a new stereotype you must also define its Base Class. This
Base Class determines which elements in your model can use the stereotype.
For example, if you create a stereotype "x" with a Base Class of "Package"
then you can select "x" as a valid stereotype for all packages in your
model.

I am new to Visio. I'm creating a UML diagram, I don't
seem to be able to define what stereotypes are associated
with the Package, or for that matter, any particular
shape. I can define a new stereotype, but I can't get it
to show up in the Package stereotype dropdown. Any help
would be gratefully appreciated.
