Re: Taming the scroll wheel zoom

One solution might be a macro. I may delve into that again, when I
have a second.

Hello Paul,

As far as I'm aware you can't change this.  It's interesting behaviour
though, from my tests the zoom level basically doubles (or halves depending
on the direction) up to 200 and then goes in steps of 200.  I also don't see
anything in the registry that you could easily change, plus changing the
Control Panel / Mouse / Wheel settings don't appear to have any effect.

So I guess you're limited to the standard increments, dragging out a marquee
(while pressing Crtl+Shift) or the zoom drop down itself.  I also customise
the toolbar (View / Toolbars / Customize...) and add some of the zoom
presets as buttons (Whole Page, 150%, 100% and 75%) which makes life a
little easier.

Anyone else got some information on this?

Hope that helps in the meantime.

Best regards

John

Actually, all that did was change the zoom function mapping from Ctrl-
Scroll to both Shift-Scroll and Scroll.  The zoom steps are still too
big, and the previous functionality of Shift-Scroll is displaced (it
scrolled horizontally, another highly convenient feature).

Sorry, Zorrina, I should have been more specific. By taming the
scroll wheel zoom, I meant lessening it rather than eliminating it. I
find it very, very useful, if only the zoom steps weren't so honking
big.

Hi Paul, Tools --> Options --> General. Clear the 'Zoom on roll with
IntelliMouse' check box.

But I'm trying to work out a few kinks.

One click of the wheel more than doubles the zoom, so I have to go to
the +/- magnifying glasses anyway.

Is there a way to subdue the scroll wheel's aggressive zoom and unzoom
in Visio 2003 (without affecting the behaviour of the wheel in general
ie. for other applications
.
