Thanks for the info. From searching other forums and blogs, it looks like you
might be able to reverse engineer from VS 2005 C++ to Viso 2007 UML:
http://forums.msdn.microsoft.com/en/vsclassdesigner/thread/532ef088-b882-4591-9f12-d64a0246fac8
I can't upgrade to VS 2008, and from what I hear, the Class Designer that is
meant to replace the reverse engineering to Visio UML is significantly
lacking in features and ability. See
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2488400&SiteID=1
I'm going to try my luck with VS 2005 Pro and Visio 2007 Pro.
Thanks again.

where v2007 has the uml diagram, I don't see a facility to import from VS..
The help facility says that the transfer is started from the VS side. That
option is not in VS2008 professional, and experience says it was in VS2005
EA which came with it's own version of Visio (EA). There is a post on
www.visiotoolbox.com with an embedded powerpoint presentation that pretty
much says that it is going away and recommends that third party products be
looked into. You might check into Paul Herber's site

I am interested in reverse engineering to UML. The forward engineering is
not that important. I did post to the VS forum and was redirected here.
Has
V2007 retained the VS to UML generating capabilities of VEA?

Forward engineering is only available with the visio that comes with
visual
studio enterprise edition. The last one published was with vs2005 EA, and
it
was based upon v11 (v2003), so upgrading to v2007 won't help. Since the
UML
(and database) stuff is really controlled by the VS people it's up to
them
to advertise what they have "deprecated".
Sorry,

Hi,
I have Visual Studio 2005 Pro. I need to reverse engineer some old C++
code
to generate UML. I have learned that my Visio 2003 Pro is not
compatible.
It
also seems that Visio for Enterprise Architects (VEA) is only available
through Premium Subscription. If I upgrade to Visio 2007, will I be
able
to
generate UML from the C++ in VS 2005?
Is there a matrix somewhere of what Microsoft products/versions are
compatible with each other?
Thanks for your help.
