Re: SSadmin.exe Visio 2003 SDK fails with SQL Server Express 2005

I had the same issue, and seem to have followed the same troubleshooting path
as the others. I found the "Sencil" typo, and was able to run the script to
create the database. I created my own DSN, and was able to point Visio at
it. However, I could only create projects, and was not able to create
masters.
The real problem is a link labeled "MSDE 2000 Release A" which diverts the
user to the SQL Server 2005 Express page from the ShapeStudio setup
discussion here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa168505(office.11).aspx
This link shouldn't have been changed until the ShapeStudio was tested with
SQL Server 2005 Express edition. I'd recommend putting it back until you get
this problem worked out.
I searched through the downloads, and was able to find MSDE 2000 Rel. A:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=413744d1-a0bc-479f-bafa-e4b278eb9147&DisplayLang=en
Once I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 Express and installed MSDE, I was able to
get the ShapeStudio up and running correctly.

It is still under investigation. There are several things around the SDK.
and ShapeStudio that are being explored, so I'm not sure we will have an
answer right away.

Alaa, Thanks for the information on the SStudio.SQL script. I changed
the
"sencil." to "S." and the script worked. However, I too cannot create
masters
etc.
The Shape Studio DB setup may not have errored on the SQL but it may not
be
correct. I will look at error logs to see if I can get an indication of
the
problem.

I had the same problem. When the SSadmin.exe did not execute, I ran the
SSTudio.SQL script that worked (after I fixed one line that had a typo
"sencil instead of Stencil". The script ran OK and the ShapeStudio
database
was generated. However, when I went to Shape Studio I was only able to
create
new projects but was unable to create any maters, base masters or
action?!!
Let me know of any of you folks have passed that point.
Thanks/alaa

John,
Thanks for grouping those links together. I had however, visited
them
previously.
The problem I have is that I cannot get the supplier SSAdmin.exe
tool to
run. It gives the error referenced above.
When I attempt to use the ShapeStudio tool I get the following
error:
Error number: 80040e14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
Server]Could
not find stored procedure 'SelectShapeStudioVersion'
I am getting this error because the SSAdmin.exe tool did not
preload the DB
with the ShapeStudio Stored procedures.
I need one of the following workarounds:
a) How can I get the SSAdmin.exe to work with SQL Server 2005
Express?
(Magic or undocumented start option).
b) Do I have to revert to an SQL Server 2000 DB?
c) A DB export of these Shape Studio which I can import?
d) A revised SSAdmin.exe which will work with SQL Server 2005
Express.
Option B would probably mean abandoning the project.

"This machine does not currently have SQL Server 2000 or

technologies (MSDE) installed."
The above error message is received when I try to setup an SQL
Server
Express 2005 DB for use doing shapes development.
Anyone got a work around?
