Note that if you "tune" or "disable" or otherwise change
the parameters of font rendering,
you have the problem if you want someone else to use your
program and they don't have the
same parameters. It gets worse if they don't like the
tuning or disabling you do.

The easy way around that is for my system to set the
parameters the way that it
wants them, and reset them back the way that they were
before they were changed
upon exit. As far as setting ClearType on or off this is
easy. I am guessing
that tuning will also have a win32 interface.

In any case my current product offering will de-emphasize
glyph recognition,
thus the primary reason for this thread only pertained to
the annoyance of
blurry glyphs. It would still be helpful to understand
exactly what ClearType
tuning does.

Disable ClearType in IE (Properties->Advanced)

The black character glyphs have very visible red
stripes
on my Widescreen LCD monitor, (and thus look very
blurry)
but the same webpage viewed on my conventional aspect
ratio LCD looks fine. Also when this same webpage is
viewed in Safari, it looks very good regardless of the
monitor that I use. This problem shows up in IE 7, but,
I
think I have seen in other places too.

What is going on with this glyph rendering, and what
can
I do to fix it?

I really need to fix the rendering of ClearType fonts,
disabling it does not help. I also need to completely
understand what caused the problem.
