Actually, there was an IDE. VS 1.52c. But I never used the text editor; I worked with
the compiler and CodeView, and it worked just fine.

Same as my experience. I learned enough MFC in three days to write an MFC app with a set
of splitter windows and deliver the prototype in two weeks.
But you are not comparing the right times. Microsoft C++ 7 didnt have
an IDE. That was the time when Borland C++ came out with IDE etc.
