I presume that by "different format" you could be referring to color depth, but that is so
blindingly trivial (as already pointed out, Paint works fine for this purpose) that I
didn't think it was worth mentioning.

Well, golly gee, I wonder why it was that *I* was able to find icons compatible with *my*
toolbar by using the same procedure I just described. Why is it you think that somehow,
magically, you are going to get a set of icons that conform to your exacting
specifications without actually doing any work to accomplish this?

Like i said, they either change color or size or are rejected altogether
because they have n colors etc.
How can i reconcile this.
If it is so easy just try it yourself, create an MFC app in VS 2005, then
find a refresh icon on the internet and add it so it nice and compatible with
the bitmaps you already have in your toolbar, like file open cut/paste etc.
I didn't have any problem finding the icons I needed; I had lots of choices. Hundreds, in
fact. I chose the ones I liked.

Then send me the URL to this refresh icon or tell me how you converted it?
Since I obviously have no idea what you mean by a "refresh icon", I'm sure I can't find
one that conforms to your taste.

Thanks.

THere are no "preferred" icons; even Microsoft changes them on every release. I spent
about ten minutes searching the icon libraries, downloaded a massive one, and found the
icon in a few minutes; probably less time than you've spent on these posts.

Im not interested in tons of them, that is a big waste of time searching
through them. Im interested in a preferred one for use with MFC applications?

google "icon library" and you will find a ton of these available, all for free.

Well the last thing i want to do is spend time designing my own icons, i haveJoseph M. Newcomer [MVP]
not got the time or the inclination as I am no bitmap artist.
But I am now spending alot of time trying to find bitmaps of the correct
size and colors, Is there an easy way to determine this and to search for
this?
Is there a defacto application bitmap/icon library anywhere?
You say change the background color, well by default for a toolbar bitmap
this is grey, which I am happy with. How can I change the background of any
bitmaps I might choose to import? You dont expect me to manaully do this
myself with a brush and pen or do you?
Could you please be more specific....
Thanks.

The pink area is generally the mask color, as this color is generally not
used as part of the toolbar itself. If you can find images in the format you
need, great. Otherwise, you'll need to tweak them a little. Just change the
background color.

Hi,
I have a standard MFC toolbar as included automatically by the application
wizard.
A few of these buttons i have removed via dragging them off. I now want
to
add some buttons of my own. I want to add a refresh button. So i go
looking
for an refresh icon or bitmap on my computer. I find some in
VS2005ImageLibrary.
There seem to be 4 different types in various color formats, 16, 24, 32
and
png and also an Icons folder.
I think i can just drag one of the bitmap files in and then copy and
paste,
but the background of the button is now in pink. Icons seem to resize
everything.
Looking like a dogs dinner now!
If I want to add already made images onto my toolbar, how is this best
acheived?
Thanks.
