All the comments (and editorials) are greatly appreciated and informative.
I know what to do now with my present situtation - forget the DLL. As for
the teeny-bopper security measures, I am satisfied with the list of
registration codes for now. I do not have the knowledge for advanced
protection, and I do not intend to punish the user in the meantime.

You would need to say more about this list of codes. Are they some
attempt to do license
keys? If so, it would take most 14-year-olds under ten minutes to crack
it.
I completely agree with Joe on this point.
