Thanx,

The first thing I mentioned in the original post was that this is a
VS .NET 2005 Professional default installation. There should be no
question whether or not platform sdk is installed....
In fact everything was working fine until I tried to install
"Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2"; it had an
example app that I needed a lib from (don't ask heh...)
All of the examples were purely makefiles, and frankly I have never
used (or had need to use) the command-line build environment, so I was
having a hell of a time getting paths set up for that. I couldn't
dictate precisely the steps I tried, but I followed the instructions
in the documentation that came with the install for Platform SDK for
WinServe2003R2. My experimental tweaks ONLY involved modification of
environment vars (path/include/lib), running of the environment var
batch files that come with visual studio, and changing paths in
Visual Studio settings.
I didn't mention this in the original post because frankly, it really
doesn't matter: I have NO issues compiling/linking so long as I use
the reset settings tool when opening visual studio; the issue is that
I need to do that EVERY TIME I open visual studio. I deleted my
settings file, replaced it with a collegues', modified mine to have
the paths shown in his, etc. Just like using the reset settings tool,
visual studio will work the next time I run it, but ONLY THAT TIME.
I'm not sure how much clearer I can be:
-Platform SDK is installed
-My path/include/lib environment vars are set
-Paths in my VS settings file appear correct
Everything I inadvertantly broke (path/include/lib environment vars
and paths in visual studio settings) have been reset using the
tools that come with visual studio. Something is being reset or not
saved implicitly and I'm wondering if the registry has something to do
with all of this; I haven't investigated into that much myself
because the visual studio registry stub is enormous.
Thanks,
