I hate the new IDE on a daily basis, but the new compiler and new MFC are compelling
reasons to change, at least to VS.NET 2003. My own opionion right now is to avoid
VS2005...it is massively full of bugs, and even the screwed-up features that still
sort-of-worked in VS.NET 2003, (like ClassWiizard) are, for me at least, seriously broken
in VS2005. The VS2005 IDE crashes without warning, or hangs; compile-and-go is seriously
broken, reducing my productivity badly. It is a complete disaster, from my perspective.
I'm not even sure it was tested before release. I don't have a day to install SP1 (see
some earlier threads). VS.NET 2002 is not worth owning, either. Don't even accept it as
a gift (a gift of VS.NET 2002 makes the Trojan Horse look positively user-friendly).
I consider this a continuation of the plot to reduce programmer productivity. [No, I don't
believe in a plot, really, but it seems that every new product Microsoft is producing
right now has a side effect of making people, long-term, less productive than they were
under the previous version of the product]

laterWe are using VC++ 6.0 for our development. Is there any way to use a
version of MFC (rather than 4.2) with VC++ 6.0? If so, how does one go
about doing this?
It probably can be done and I would check codeproject/codeguru to see
if its possible. However I dont know why would you want to do this. The
only reason I can find is you must hate the new IDE.
Having used the 2003 IDE, I can say, yes, I do hate it. I think it is a big
step backwards. But the main reason is that we are experiencing a problem
with CFileDialog that has supposedly been fixed in the new MFC version. We
are very close to a release, and didn't want to shake up everything.
For those that have updated past VC++ 6.0, do you recommend that we just
bite the bullet and upgrade? Or is it easier to get the new MFC version and
build against it?
Thanks for any help!
