Icons in VS .net 2002

We use an independent icon editor and are just experimenting with icons for
our product. Most of our icons are based around a 'teal' colour (RGB -
128,128,255). However, when we import these icons into Visual Studio and
open them, the icon is lost as Visual Studio uses this colour for the
default background colour. I know you can change the background colour once
an icon is open, but unfortunately it makes most of our icons look rubbish
by chaning the colour of most of the image, not just the background! We
don't want to force the background of our icons to be white, because not
everyone uses white as a document colour. The question really is - how can
we change the background colour in visual studio before opening an icon?
