I kind of agree with both of you. I wish it could be fixed as well, but I
understand that there are tons of variables (pun intended) so it is
difficult to make it always be right. I consider this sort of like a disk
defragger. It would be nice if the hard drive did not get fragmented, but
I'm glad there is a tool to fix it. Obviously, this problem is not on the
same scale and we can remove the file and recompile to recreate it so ...

There should be no mechanism to do this. Its simply that the
functionality
should work as advertised and not depend upon the size or purge the data
in
the files as these grow big. It should be transparent to user.
Theoretically yes. Practically, if MS can't fix it in years, then they
should hack some dropping remover into the product so their screw up
doesn't affect the end user (us).
