Buttons added on parent window

Hi all,
I downloaded an application a few days ago, and noticed that it has put
buttons on the parent window (next to the minimize, maximize and close
buttons) on explorer, Word and a few other windows. This looks nice and
I was wondering how it was achieved - overwriting a dll, for instance?
