I stumbled across a free giveaway of VS 2005, all you had to do was watch 3
webcasts about web development - which were REALLY good - and you got a
package of stuff with a great book on ASP.net and a free copy of VS2005
standard. Bill Gates, if you're reading this, thanks for saving me 500
dollars to upgrade!
The express editions are, in a word, ***. Except for the web devel.
package, they're for beginners. "Coding for fun" sounds like "bobbing for
french fries" to me.
The standard VS2005 is semi-reasonably priced. Get it and don't bother with
the expr. editions.
PS- go check MS's site, the promo was supposed to be over on June 30, maybe
they extended it.

I just downloaded 91 megs worth of MS Express, which claims to be a C++
development suite suited to a hobbyist. Otherwise I have usually worked in
the full-on Visual Studio4 or 6. Am I going to rue the day that I tried to
use something free from MS? cordially, bfx
