With some trepidation, need to install a second NIC in my XP workstation so my MFC dialog based app can talk to a barcode reader with a LAN port. Any good advice BEFORE I start?

The existing NIC MUST continue to function as is to a plant network!!!


Barcode reader with a LAN port?  Probably not.

If it's like most other Symbol barcode wands, that is an RJ45 plug that has a few pins for RS232 and a few pins for power. You won't get anywhere connecting it to an Ethernet card...
