Hello Josh,
Just curious on if you guys have any suggestions on a CVS for a small research business to use.
We have roughly 10 programs that we keep track of, as well as about 8 or 9 seperate subprojects that are shared among the programs, and numerous 3rd party libraries that tie into it also.
Looking for suggestions on what would best allow me to retain only 1 copy of everything and yet at the same time keep a good backup of all of our files and changelogs. I've used the GNU CVS server, and been pleased with it, as well as VSS, but was curious as to what everyone else uses in their business.
I guess it all depends upon your needs. We used VSS for a year or so. We then switched to Perforce. Its world of difference. VSS is really not meant for anything serious in a big environment where you can have multiple branches. Its almost impossible to find a *list* of files that was checked in. All in all, a pain. Perforce and others like it, however, are expensive but well worth it. I should know as my new job has VSS and I do lot of guessing to make it work like Perforce.
