Re: Problem downloading Activex control

Hello Gary and thank you for your responses.

I'm not sure you got that quite right. It always works well in the
web page once it has been downloaded and registered. But I was only
able to get it to download 'automatically' the first time I tried it.
And I'm not even sure about that as I think I already had a copy of
the ocx file on the client machine (but unregistered) before I tried
the auto download. In any case, that time, it did not ask me for the
location of the ocx file, but simply registered it and used it as it
should.

Since then, no matter what I do, IE always puts up a box asking for
the location of the .ocx file, after downloading the .cab file. If I
copy the ocx file to the client computer, then use the box IE displays
to tell it where the file is, then it will register it and use it, and
all is ok. But it seems that IE does not like the copy of the ocx
file that is contained within the cabinet file.

Yes, I have checked. I have added the site to the Trusted Sites list,
and confirmed that it will download Activex files that are unsigned,
after a prompt. It does give me the prompt, and appears to
successfully download the .cab file, but then does not seem to realize
that the .ocx file is contained within the cabinet.

Thank you! I'm sorry for the slow response, but soon after posting
the original message I got quite sick (with allergies, I guess) and am
just now recovering to the point where I am able to work on this
again.

I will answer your other message separately.

Thanks again, Russ
