Re: MFC MDI app hangs randomly on some machines, but not others (most are OK). Typical causes?

Many thanks for taking the time to answer, Johan and Tim.

We will work through the suggestions. So far...

Johan, the files seem to be immaterial. If the machine can open any
files, it can open all files, and if it cannot open one, it cannot
open any. As it stands, we have implemented a text logging function
which shows that the app is hanging during a routine which adds
members to a MFC CArray of a custom class. We do not have a good
enough base of logs yet to be sure this is the problem area. Double
checking variable initializations...

Tim, we have managed to recreate the bug on IE6 installs with latest
version of common controls. Also, some low spec machines also hang,
not just high specced. Problem with remote debugging is that users
are not generally very technical, and just getting log files emailed
to us is a challenge! Waiting for next enthusiastic user...

Regarding the video card problems, is there any evidence that such
problems can be solved by reducing the acceleration of these devices
in Control Panel?

Thanks again.
