Well, I'm afraid none of the approaches suggested are feasible in my
case. The log files get refreshed on a daily basis and therefore
persistence in an RDBMS is not required. The format can not be changed
so XML is not feasible.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your replies.

If someone else can show me any problems with my approach and/or
suggest me an alternative I would be grateful.
