Also, in some cases there is no default file at all. E.g. Apache server
may be configured to generate a listing of the directory on the fly, if
the directory doesn't contain, say, index.html
Which is a great big pain in the you-know-what!
Do you *actually know* how to turn this so-called "feature" off? I'm
clueless when it comes to unix + server-config etc. Ours is Apache and every
"folder", or whatever Unix people like to call it, automatically gets a nice
directory listing of all our (mainly PRIVATE) files. Unless of course we add
index.html to EVERY SINGLE [gratuitous expletive omitted] directory!
You don't have to explain it to my level of understanding (which is ~= 0); I
would just pass on anything you might say to our server guy and have him
change the setting. Even though he is similarly inept when it comes to unix,
at least he can do things like find and edit a standard config file (you
know, like all the crucial OS components that normally go into a folder
called "temp" or "etc" or something). Good-ol Unix... cant' wait to trash my
XP system and make the big switch everyone seems to think is the answer to
everything.
Thanks in advance. This may be a dream come true!
