yes they usually call that software PC-Link or phone manager, which
syncronizes phone data's ex. telephone numbers, schedule,themes,ring-tones,
photos video's n others, also allows user to manager sms send receive, save
to pc.
on the company's side they also use mobile phones or similiar device
connected with their webserver in order to send sms via their website.

I was just wondering because the phone's modem usb driver uses virtual com
port like on the properties of the usb device sez the device uses ex. COM3
or COM6.
