SDK compiler collection: C1083; Path problems?

Hello,
I've got some difficulties when compiling code samples with the free MS
compiler collection. Following packages are installed on my system:
- .NET Framework SDK
- Platform SDK
- Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003

Example: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows XP
SP2\Samples\Multimedia\wia\GetImage
nmake terminates with following msg:
c:\Programme\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows XP
SP2\Samples\Multimedia\wia\GetImage\StdAfx.h(24) : fatal error C1083:
Cannot open include file: 'atlbase.h': No such file or directory

Platform SDKs SetEnv.Bat contains the line
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft.NET\SDK\v1.1\Bin\sdkvars.bat
at the end. Following env vars are set in the command line shell opened
through SetEnv.Bat of the Platform SDK:
