VC++ 6 will continue to be used as long as it remains superior to the
tools that were intended to replace it.

The newer compilers conform MUCH more closely with the C++ standard.
Unfortunately, they're handicapped with an IDE that's somewhere
between awful and simply unusable.
You don't have to use any of the .NET "stuff" if you don't want to,
but if you're writing MFC-based applications (for one example) the
new IDE is excruciatingly painful compared to VC++ 6's.
