console output in debug window of visual studio

Hi!
(I hope, i'm right here)
I sometimes build a little windows console application (w/o mfc) for
testing some code. I remember, there should be a possibility to avoid
opening a dos like window showing all the printf result but redirecting
this to the debug window at the bottom of my ide (visual studio 6).
Can anybody help?
