Re: Remote debugging on Windows Vista RC2 - firewall configuration fai

I am running Vista RC2 in a VMWare virtual machine with bridged networking...
After running the remote debugger setup wizard to enable remote debugging
from machines in my local subnet, I started the remote debugging monitor.
The monitor tells me that the firewall is blocking some ports, and gives a
list of ports that need to be unblocked. (Of course this list uses names that
are no longer used in the Vista RC2 firewall.) It then offers to unblock the
ports for me.
If I choose to let the monitor unblock the ports, the monitor comes back
with an invalid function error.
I get this:
"Could not configure the Windows firewall. Cannot add a port to the
Windows Firewall exception list. Use the Control Panel to manually
configure the Windows Firewall.
"
Regardless of whether I use Run as Administrator or not.
Is that what you get?
The only way that I can get the remote debug monitor to start is to
completely turn off the firewall.
Yeah, I can't figure it out either - it's not intuitive if we are
supposed to be able to do it.
This all worked fine in Vista RC1.
I hadn't tried it in that version.
Does anyone have any idea why changes that break key Microsoft developer
products are being made this late in the release cycle?
Vista is *very* late!
I suggest that you submit a bug report on it against VS:
http://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/default.aspx?SiteID=210
and post a link back here to your bug report and I'll validate it.
