Based on the current situation, it appears there is something wrong with
your customer's machine. Could the MDAC(of your customer's WinXP SP2
machine) be corrupted/flushed by any chance? I think you can suggest your
customer to refresh the MDAC:

Another possible reason is that the targeting database happened to be
corrupted, since you could not request your customer to download a sample
to test, I think he/she can test with the program itself... how about
suggest he/she remove the program and install it again(maybe install to
another directory)
These tests will help us get closer to resolving your issue, so I
appreciate you taking the time to suggest your customer to perform them.
