Multiple IE instances => avoid multiple plugin instances?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

My plugin connects to a server, this means that for each IE instance a
new instance of my plugin is started. However, I would like to avoid
having multiple connections to this server. Would there be any way to
create plugin that doesn't have this problem?

The only solution that I see would be by using some sort of inter-
process communication. However, I expect this to be not so trivial on
Vista.

So before I start spending a lot of time on potentially wrong
solutions, I would like to learn your insights on this matter.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Kind regards,
Francis
